TheBomb.Com Chai Tea Latte Recipe

Lately I have been OBSESSED with Starbucks’ Soy Chai Tea Latte. But if you are familiar with Starbucks, you know that “A Starbucks A Day, Keeps Your Saving Goals Far Far Away”! That’s why I was in desperate need of a good recipe so I could make my own Soy Chai Tea Latte every morning before work (or whenever I feel like having a cup!).

This recipe was soooo good that it would be very selfish of me not to share with my worldwideweb-friends! It’s a recipe for Chai Tea syrup. You can just add hot water for regular Chai Tea and if you want a latte you just add (soy) milk to it.

Chai Tea Recipe

  • 50 oz water
  • piece of ginger (about 1-3 inch), sliced
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 2 tbsp of ground cardamom
  • 2 whole star anise pods
  • 10 black peppercorns
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 1 tbsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 8-10 bags of (english blend) black tea

Chai Tea RecipeSlice the ginger and break the cinnamon sticks. Then put all the spices together in a sauce pan on low heat to let all the aromas come out (about 1-2 minutes, without oil).
Make sure you DO NOT add the vanilla extract yet!!!

Chai Tea RecipeAdd the water and orange zest next. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, covered with the lid.

Chai Tea RecipeAfter about 20 minutes remove the pan from the heat and strain the concentrate through a sieve. Add the tea bags to the concentrate and let them sit for 10 minutes (not longer… or your concentrate will have a bitter taste to it).

Chai Tea Latte RecipeTake out the tea bags and turn on the heat again. Add the brown sugar and bring to a boil while stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Now you can lower the heat and add the vanilla extract. Let simmer until it has a syrup-like texture.

Let the syrup cool completely before pouring it into a cute jar or bottle.

Now you can enjoy your chai tea or (soy) chai tea latte. You can even add some honey if you really have a sweet tooth. I personally take half a cup of soy milk, heat it up and froth it. Then, in a clean cup, I put about 2 tablespoons of my delicious chai tea syrup … fill up half the cup with hot water and add the frothed milk …. top it off with a little bit of ground cinnamon … et voilà!!!! Starbucks ain’t got nothin’ on me!!!! LoL

I’m tempted to make my own now; how long does the syrup generally store before before expiring?
