Korean Skin Care products are always on point!

Why is it that the Korean beauty market is always ahead of ours?! If you follow Charlotte Cho’s website  Soko Glam, you probably already know about the latest trick for getting the most out of an essence.

Now, I hear you asking: what the heck is an essence, Deborah?! Well let me tell you real quick: An essence is an Asian skin care staple that helps with anti-aging. It’s a liquid you can put on your face after toning it (but you have to do it before putting your moisturizer on). In her book ‘The Little Book of Skin Care: Korean Beauty Secrets for Healthy, Glowing Skin‘, Charlotte describes it as:

“Essences have a thinner and more watery consistency than serums, but most of them contain active ingredients to help hydrate, brighten, even out skin tone, firm skin, and reduce the visibility of wrinkles.”

So what about the trick everybody is raving about? Well, Many of the Korean Skin Care brands usually sell their essences as pre-soaked cotton pads or package them in containers, so that you can pour some of the product into your hands and pad that onto your face. Pretty familiar, right?

Charlotte explains on her website that Koreans like their beauty products to be as fresh as possible. Meaning that they don’t want their precious lotions, oils and whatever more, to be exposed to oxygen too much.

A company called Neogen has designed a product which was designed with exactly that goal in mind: the Essence and Tox Tightening Pack.

“Anything pre-soaked can quickly become over-saturated and fragile with time. On top of that, ingredients can become less effective through oxidation. These kits were designed with the intention of reducing and minimizing the oxidation process by providing fresh essence that you pour into the pads. You’ll get the best results if you use the pads and formula within two to three months of opening, which is the freshest state of the essence”, Charlotte says.

On Charlotte’s websites you can buy the products and the are described as:

“Improve skin’s elasticity and deeply moisturize with this essence from the Neogen Dermalogy line. The multi-layered pads included help to manually exfoliate as you apply the essence formula to your skin. Niacinamide, collagen, and sodium hyaluronate work to plump up your skin while hydrating and brightening, for a glowing and youthful complexion. This is helpful for dry skin and if you’re concerned with fine lines and wrinkles. Neogen’s innovative packaging separates the essence formula from the pads until you’re ready to use them for the first time. All you have to do is pour the essence into the container of pads and let them absorb the formula before your first use. There’s even tweezers included to pick up each pad so you don’t have to stick your fingers into the jar.”

The kit comes with a bottle of the essence formula, a jar of cotton pads and tweezers. The cotton pads have one rigid side to exfoliate and one quilted side to pad the essence into your skin. You need to pour the essence formula into the jar of exfoliating pads and let them fully immerse.

To keep germs out of the jar you need to use tweezers to remove the cotton pads.

You can buy the kits in two different versions. The first one is Lemon Green Caviar, which has licorice, lemon, and niacinamide extracts in it to brighten dull skin. This version will cost you $44 on Charlotte’s website.

The second version is Gold Black Caviar, which has gold flakes, collagen extracts, and niacinamide which gives your skin extra hydration. You can get this one for $48.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve not had a beauty regime sine I was 18, but now moving to a colder climate. I’ve promise myself to get back on the wagon of moisturising and taking better care of my skin.

      Hi Etta!

You should really do that! Your skin is soooo important and needs as much love as possible. I have very dry skin and immediately notice changes when I don’t take care of it. So DO invest in some good quality products because it’ll benefit you in the long run! ☺️

      xoxo Deborah
