Today I want to share with you my favorite beauty products of May 2014.
I have never done a monthly favorites post but I figured it’s good to try new things. 🙂
I always buy beauty products when I go to the mall or the grocery store. I just CANNOT go there and NOT buy makeup, body lotion, nail polish, etc.
So from this day on I’ll try to share my most used and liked products with you each month.
This month I tried a couple of new products but also fell back in love with a couple of old favorites.
1. Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion/Milk
I have very dry skin and always need to moisturize when I come out of the shower. I have always used Nivea’s regular body milk and when I saw their ad on TV for the In-Shower version I really wanted to give it a try.
After using your regular shower gel you smear the Nivea In Shower Body Lotion on your body like a regular lotion. The only difference is that you have to rinse it off afterwards. It leaves your skin super soft and if you have normal skin you don’t have to put extra lotion on after you get out of the shower. I have to put some extra lotion on extra dry spots but if you don’t suffer from extra dry skin… You are good to go!
2. Sephora Instant Nail Polish Remover
I bought this product a while ago and was instantly amazed by it. I totally forgot that I bought two!!
So when I did some unpacking in my new apartment and found this in one of the boxes, I did a little happy dance!!!!
I hate it when you have to take polish off of just ONE finger nail and you mess up a few others because the cotton ball or pad, which is soaked in nail polish remover, touched them. With this product you eliminate all of those annoying problems. Just stick the finger of which you want to remove the polish from in the jar, wiggle it around, rub it against the sponge inside, take it out… Et voila!!!! Your nail is clean…
3. Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel “Cocoa Butter”
This is what I use on the dry spots after I get out of the shower. I also put a little bit on my face.
Unfortunately, I can’t find it anywhere in Holland so I usually buy a gazillion when I visit the US.
This product claims that it’s clinically proven to lock in 10 times more moisture when applied on wet skin than an ordinary lotion can on dry skin. I personally don’t know about those numbers but i DO know that it does keep my (very dry) skin soft and moisturized pretty much the whole day, when I put this on right after I come out of the shower. Unlike other baby oils and lotions, which only work for about 4-6 hours and seem to dry out my skin even more.
The product contains Cocoa Butter, which is known for its skin nourishing properties.
4. Lancôme – La Vie Est Belle EDP
Since a couple of months now I have been wearing only one fragrance…Lancôme’s “La Vie Est Belle”
And girl let me tell you…life IS beautiful with this fragrance in it!!! It was launched in 2013 and the moment I smelled it, it instantly became one of my all time favorites. It’s top notes are black currant and pear…the smells of iris, jasmine and orange blossom give the fragrance a perfect combination for the middle notes…while the aromas of patchouli, tonka bean, vanilla and praline, as the base notes, give it strength and depth. It really reminds me of spring and summer. And since it hasn’t really been much of a cold winter out here this year, it was the perfect fragrance to get me in the spring/summer mood early!
5. Rexona Clear Pure Deodorant
When my mom bought me my first deodorant, she came home with a Rexona roll-on. I’ve used that product for years but in my late teenage years I didn’t want my mom’s “smell” under my own arms anymore. It was time to find my own signature deodorant…
So I switched to Nivea. Ohhhh how I LOVED that Nivea smell. But about 10 years later I discovered that Nivea wasn’t working for me anymore. I immediately went back to Rexona again. But this time I tried the spray in stead of the roll-on. I finally understood why my mom loved this baby so much!!!! It kept me dry and made me smell fresh all day long!!! The Nivea one sometimes left these nasty wet spots in my shirt and that was anything but cute!!!! But this new Rexona…WOW!!!! I loved it!!! The only thing back then was that all deodorants would leave white stains in your clothes (Girl…I KNOW you remember those!!!)
So when Rexona came out with their “Clear”-line, I was VERY eager to try it out…
and (not so 🙂 ) surprisingly I have been using it ever since!
Rexona Clear has a crystal-formula that minimizes white spots/stripes on your clothes and at the same time keeps you dry and protects you from unwanted odors. What’s NOT to love?!
6. Blistex Daily Lip Conditioner
Don’t you just hate dry and cracked lips? Most people suffer from this during the winter season. Of course I am NOT that lucky. I have very dry skin and my lips could be super dry during ANY season. So I always keep a jar or Blistex close.
I keep them everywhere: in my purse, in every room of my apartment, in my desk at work … you name it!
The reason I love this product (besides the fact that it actually keeps my lips soft and smooth) is because it gives you sort of a burning sensation when you put it on your lips. Nothing crazy or dangerous though…just a heavy tingly feeling. While some people may disagree with me… I love that tingle because I’d like to think that I actually can feel it working!
Blistex Daily Lip Conditioner contains olive oil, Aloe Vera and grape seed oil which provide natural nurturing and daily hydration.
7. Maybelline New York Baby Lips – Pink Punch
Now, I must admit that I didn’t like this product at first. Mainly because my lips were dry at the time I tried this out and smearing this on them only made it worse. So I hated it….
But I was dead set on finding out why “everyone and they momma” raved about Baby Lips.
So i tried it again. This time my lips were in good condition and I started to see why they are so popular.
Okay let’s be real…it doesn’t really moisturizes your lips…but it does give them a natural color boost!
I could even get away with NOT wearing lipstick on a full face of makeup!!!!
How awesome is that?!
So overall…I love this product as much as I hate it. I love it for it’s hint of color but i hate that it does not moisturize my lips at all!
I do, however, always keep it in my purse because you never know when you need to pop a little color on those babies!
8. YSL Rouge Volupté #1 Nude Beige
My first introduction with the Volupté lipsticks was a hit! It was love at first sight … I knew right there and then that I had found the love of my life!
For Christmas I got a little cash so I thought “Why not treat myself to a new lipstick?!” . Initially I wanted to buy to new M.A.C. colors. But when I came across this YSL one in the store I instantly forgot about them.
I always seem to go for pink nudes when it comes to buying lipsticks or glosses. That’s probably why I was so drawn to the #1-Nude Beige. I do think the name is a little off because it’s obviously pink and not beige … but hey, it’s just a name, right?!
This lipstick is SO creamy and So pigmented. After lining my lips I only have to dab on the lipstick very lightly and I’m good to go.
And since this is a high-end product with an even more high-end price it’s a good thing you don’t have to put on like 3 thick coats.
9. O.P.I. Lincoln Park After Dark
I don’t know if you’ve noticed … But I just LOVE me some O.P.I.!!!
Ever since 2008 I have been rocking this color called “Lincoln Park After Dark”!!!! I bought my first bottle in a nail salon in Lenox Mall, Atlanta. And I seriously NEVER stopped loving it.
It’s deep burgundy color is very sexy and classy all together. Perfect for date night (or a night on the town looking for a date *wink*).
This will be one of my favorites for the rest of my life…
10. E.L.F. Flawless Finish Foundation #Almond
Don’t you think it’s very hard to go back to “drugstore” foundations, when you’re so used to the “high-end” ones?!
Well, I was VERY hesitant about trying this ELF Flawless Finish Foundation … but was very pleasantly surprised as soon as I did!
It’s obviously no M.A.C., Clinique, Nars, YSL or Chanel, but it’s a pretty good dupe. It gives medium to full coverage without clogging your pores. It feels really light on your skin, evens skin texture and tone, and is oil-free.
Did I mention E.L.F. does NOT test its products on animals?! 🙂
11. Nivea Visage Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover
Since the day I started wearing makeup I despised cleaning that mess off my face. Especially mascara…
Looking like a raccoon (because your eye makeup remover is wack) is NOT sexy!
At the beginning of April I bought this Nivea Visage Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover (together with #13.. Nivea Visage Gentle Cleansing Cream) but didn’t use it until a three weeks ago.
I’m very pleased with how quick and easy it removes ALL of the mascara from my eyes without leaving dark circles around my eyes.
12. L’Oreal False Lash Telescopic
Trying out drugstore mascaras seems to be one of the things I live for. I’m always buying mascara … Especially when there’s a “Buy-1-get-1-50%-off” deal.
I have so many mascaras that I have yet to try. But when I bought L’oreal’s I started using it right away and it instantly became one of my holy grail products.
The Telescopic False Lash Effect brush captures and stretches each and every lash to give them an intense look.
13. Nivea Visage Gentle Cleansing Cream
Like #11 I am very pleased with this product. Since I have very dry skin most cleansing creams and lotions leave my skin dry and irritated … I REALLY have to moisturize (with like Vaseline) after using them.
The Nivea Visage Gentle Cleansing Cream does the absolute opposite! It leaves my skin soft like a babies butt!
Plus it cleans your face really well! It takes off nearly every bit of makeup!
Have you tried any of these products and what were your favorite products this past month?!
